What Is a Frenectomy?
A frenectomy is a common procedure used to fix either a tongue-tie or a lip-tie. A tongue-tie is when a child has a thick or shorter lingual frenulum, or tissue that restricts the tongue’s movement. Similarly, a lip-tie is when the upper lip is restricted because the tissue is too thick and causes mobility issues. The tongue and lips are an important part of a child’s development, and making sure they both have proper mobility can ensure your child’s speech, sleep, feeding, and dental health stay on track.

How Does a Frenectomy Work?
A frenectomy is a simple procedure that is done right in our office to restore movement and correct both a tongue-tie or lip-tie. During the procedure we use a state-of-the-art CO2 laser to gently release the tissue. Our laser is extremely gentle and precise, and can be done in infants or children. Addressing tongue or lip-ties as soon as they are discovered is recommended, and can help prevent future issues from developing.
During the procedure we numb the area, patients do not complain of any pain, and recovery is easy with no stitches required. Parents notice speech improvement after a few weeks, and speech therapy may be recommended to achieve the best results.
